What is an Asterisk?
An asterisk is the star-like symbol (*) used in literature, math, sales and many other areas of study or work. The asterisk can denote notations, multiplication, records, statistics, footnotes, a wild card, or repetition. On most English-language keyboards it is Shift+8.
In most fonts the asterisk is superscripted or made to appear smaller than other symbols. It may appear a combination of three crossed lines, two diagonal and one horizontal or two diagonal and one vertical, or multiple variations with additional lines.

AsteriskBonds.com™ Overview
We think the symbol of the Asterisk is so much cooler than the period, question mark, exclamation point, or colon that we've dedicated a whole web site to this powerful non- punctuation mark. Not as severe as the dagger or obelisk (†), or double dagger (‡), we like to think of the much softer Asterisk as an equivalent to such poetic literary and publishing devices as the middle finger, the forehead slap, the clinched fist, the thumbs up or thumbs down, the loser sign, the nose thumb, the Italian elbow gesture, the horns, etc., because these "gestures" all suggest further meaning than their initial actions suggest. By putting an Asterisk after a word or name, however, it's a clear indication that there is additional information to be had usually somewhere else in sight, say, at the bottom of a page or in the footnotes of a given text.* A symbol, just as language is a set of symbols, to be used at your discretion in further defining the meaning of a word, name, or concept, and the etymology, historical background, and trivia surrounding the Asterisked word or name.

Spread The Word
In this particular instance, more can be said with one word and an Asterisk than any soundbite, video clip, gesture, or book. Try it...on coffee mugs, T-shirts, underwear, hats, and tons of other products. Let the world know what you think. And do it quick to help put this Asterisk where it belongs and prevent it from disappearing.

*But it's up to the individual to decide whether or not they want to take the time to seek that information out. Where one finds details of the Asterisked information, whether it be footnotes or statistics, notated data, etc., is up to the author or illustrator, the doctor or musician, the restaurateur, or journalist, webmaster, or CFO...wherever they direct you. It's information one doesn't have room in the text to show you immediately but if you inquire further you'll discover facts, definitions, or statistics somewhere on the "page." Data that helps us understand further our purchase, our investment, our life savings, our quick oil change and the rights we waive if we agree to sign...usually associated with the fine print of insurance sales persons and taxes...oh you know all this, right? Here, we offer an Asterisk that may not readily point to or denote an additional definition visible to the naked eye, but if you search your feelings, search your heart, study the facts, you'll find the statistics you know to be true hidden behind our favorite tiny star.
